Shingitai Dojo - Frankfurt am Main

Our Dojo was initiated in the year 1996 by Nobuyoshi Tamura Shihan. He gave us the name Shin-Gi-Tai and made our Dojo-Calligraphy. Initially, only Aikido was taught in the Dojo, since the year 2000 Iaido is being studied too.

The japanese principle of unification of Spirit (shin), Skill (gi) and Body (tai) is an important concept of modern budo. Only through unification of these three elements can a person grow and reach the highest level in martial arts.

kanji_SHIN The sign »shin« describes the term »Spirit«. If we interpret this sign in the full meaning, we reach the concepts of »Heart« and »moral integrity«. The deeper meaning of this sign lies in the notion of committing to a task out of love and not out of profit. In the deepest self, a person should connect to the emotions and concentrate on the task ahead.
kanji_GI The next sign »gi« – also called »wasa« – means »Skill«, Technique, Ability. It contains the neccessity to learn continuously and develop learned skills even further. Persistent training - although it may be exhausting - is the only way to advance and grow.
kanji_TAI The last sign is »tai«, which is translated with »Body«. It points to the obligation that a person has to take care of the body and cultivate it on a high level. We are limited only by the bound we alone set; but the boundaries of this type are not mandatory and can be overcome.
Shin-Gi-Tai means the unification of the three elements: Spirit, Technique, and Body; which make a complete person. If one of these elements is forgotten, the balance and harmony are amiss and it is not possible to excell in martial arts.
